Shortly before the outbreak of World War II, the paths of three people on the run cross by chance in the small Baltic Sea port of Rerig: Gregor, a member of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD); Judith, a Jewish woman; and a pastor who wants to save an Ernst Barlach sculpture classified as degenerate art. All those involved share a common fate and the dream of a fisherman's boy from Zanzibar, which is less a real goal than a utopia of a better future. Adaptation of Alfred Andersch's novel.

Armin Rohde experienced as a "good cop" Fredo Schulz a controversial Special Investigation operation in the drug depot Berlin-Neukölln. A covert investigator was shot and Schulz, the widowed police officer, widower and ex-alcoholic at the end of his career, is charged with the resolution of the tricky case. Together with his partner, Chief Inspector Milan Filipovic, he manages to win the young dealer Dakota as an informant. But soon the two investigators will not let go of the feeling that they have a leak in their own ranks.

Franz, editor-in-chief of a large publishing house and no stranger to sadness himself, learns shortly before his wife Simone's death that she has been cheating on him. Stunned by this infidelity, he doggedly sets out in search of his rival. At Simone's funeral, a pimp turns up with two bodyguards and lays a wreath with the dedication 'With love - your tiger'. Franz wants to get to know this rival better and even follows him to his stately home in Andalusia.
